[Back to Piping]

Keys

In this video, Stuart Letford talks about how Tommy Pearston from the College of Piping and co-author of the Highland Bagpipe Tutor, described feelings associated with notes.

Low G - The note of the gathering, the Devil's note
Low A - The piper's note
B - The note of challenge
C - The most musical note
D - The angry note, the note of battle
E - The echoing note
F - The note of love
High G - The note of sorrow or lament

His scale differs somewhat from Simon Fraser's:

High G - Hu

Unsurprisingly, there are several dialects.
